Stockton Takes Two from Drew, 9-0 & 7-4

Madison, NJ – Stockton University (12-4) extended its winning streak to four with its second straight doubleheader sweep as the Ospreys won 9-0 in five innings and 7-4 over Drew University (6-10). Nicole Tomo (Cedar Grove/Cedar Grove) reached the 100-hit mark in the first game.
 
Tomo and Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) finished with four hits apiece on the day. Pitcher Hannah Bibeault (Hopatcong/Hopatcong) earned both wins in relief.
 
In the opener, Samantha Shockey (Deptford/Deptford) went 2-4 with a double, four RBI and a run while Catherine Wunder (Clinton/North Hunterdon) was 2-3 with a double and three RBI. Gianna Cuffari (Cedar Grove/Cedar Grove) went 2-3 with a triple, two runs and an RBI. Tomo also knocked two hits.
 
Stockton got started with an RBI single by Dominique Dorris (Mantua/Clearview) in the first inning for a 1-0 lead. In the third frame, Shockey doubled in two runs and Wunder earned an RBI on a groundout to make it 4-0. The Ospreys broke the game open with four runs in the fourth inning on a two-run single by Shockey and a two-run double by Wunder.
 
Tomo singled in the fifth frame for her 100th career hit and Cuffari later drove in Stockton's final run with a triple. The game ended after five innings due to the eight-run rule. Bibeault pitched the last three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit in relief of Shockey for the combined shutout.
 
In the nightcap, Massa went 3-4 with two RBI followed by Tomo and Chelsea Thomas (Barrington/Haddon Hts.) with two hits apiece. Tomo also scored three runs and Thomas added two runs.
 
The Ospreys surged to the lead with three runs in the top of the third. Tomo led off with a single and later scored on a throwing error. Massa rapped a two-run single to give Stockton a 3-0 lead. Drew closed the gap with two runs in the bottom half but the Ospreys answered with two of their own in the top of the fourth on a two-run single by Danielle Lugo (Vineland/Vineland) to increase the lead to 5-2.
 
Tomo and Thomas led off the sixth inning with back-to-back singles. Tomo later scored on a sacrifice fly by Lugo that was her third RBI of the game and Thomas came home on an error for a 7-2 advantage.
 
Drew scored two unearned run in the bottom of the sixth and got the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh before Bibeault retired the final two batters on a popup and strikeout to close the 7-4 victory. Bibeault earned her second win of the day with four innings pitched out of the bullpen, allowing two runs, both unearned, on five hits with three strikeouts.
 
Up next, Stockton will host FDU-Florham in a doubleheader on Thursday at 3 p.m.
