Boxscore

Washington, DC – Stockton University (2-1) suffered their first loss of the 2016 season with a 14-7 defeat at the hands of Catholic University (4-2) on Saturday afternoon. The Ospreys played their third straight road game to open the season. Vincent Manasia (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) led the way for Stockton with three goals on the afternoon.

The Ospreys started strong, scoring three of the first four tallies of the contest, with Manasia garnering two of the markers. Freshman Tommy Gallo (Clinton/North Hunterdon) knotted the game at 1-1 with his third goal of the season. Manasia potted the next two for a 3-1 advantage. He was assisted by Gallo and Chris Kaczmarski (Somers Point/Mainland) on the scores.

The Cardinals responded with three tallies of their own to take a 4-3 lead after one period, then held the Ospreys scoreless while netting two more goals in the second frame for a 6-3 count at the break.

Just 24 seconds into the third quarter, James O'Donnell (Mount Laurel/Lenape) scored the first of three consecutive Osprey goals to make it 6-4. He was followed by Guy Loggi (Somers Point/Mainland) and then Manasia to forge a 6-6 tie. Mike Caposella (Wayne/DePaul) dished the helper on Manasia's tally.

Once again, Catholic responded with three goals to reclaim the lead at 9-6 heading into the fourth period. Kaczmarski scored an unassisted goal to cut the lead to 9-7 but that was the last marker for the Ospreys on the afternoon. The Cardinals finished off the game with five straight goals to down Stockton 14-7.

In addition to Manasia's three goals, Gallo and Kaczmarski added a goal and assist each. Stockton goalkeeper Pat Quinn (Shrewsbury/Red Bank Regional) registered 10 saves in defeat. Freshman Tyler Bollard (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) scooped seven ground balls, with Lance Pecina (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) and rookie Ryan Bradley (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) forcing two turnovers each.

Bennett Bradley led the Cardinals with five goals while teammates Victor Licata and Tim Keith tallied two goals and two assists each. Goalkeeper Harrison Holak made 18 saves in picking up the victory.

Stockton will return to Galloway for the home opener on Wednesday when the Ospreys host Centenary at 7 p.m.
