Stockton Breaks Away in Second Half for Win

Boxscore

New London, CT – Stockton University (2-0) scored eight goals in the second half to break open a close game and defeat Coast Guard (0-2) 11-3 for its second straight win to open the season. Lauren Ivancich (Beach Haven/Southern Regional) led the Ospreys with a game-high four goals plus a team-high four draw controls.

Freshman Sarah Frankovic (Long Valley/West Morris Central) chipped in with three goals and an assist while Kim Raichelson (Brick/Brick Memorial) tossed in two markers for the Ospreys. Stockton outshot Coast Guard 34-7 in the game.

Raichelson, Ivancich and Skyler Mahoney-Kendra (Tinton Falls/St. John Vianney) scored in the first six minutes to spark the Ospreys to a quick 3-0 lead. The Stockton offense slowed from there and Coast Guard got on the board at the 16:21 mark for a 3-1 count that remained through halftime.

The Ospreys started quickly again the second half as Frankovic scored 2:18 into the stanza and Ivancich followed with a pair of tallies 19 seconds apart to extend the lead to 6-1 with less than four minutes gone. The Bears ended the run of three straight to make it 6-2 but Stockton took over from there.

The Ospreys reeled off five straight goals to clinch the victory. Frankovic potted two counters while Raichelson, Ivancich and freshman Carissa Genzo (Robbinsville/Robbinsville) each scored once during the spurt. A late Coast Guard tally set the final score at 11-3 in Stockton's favor.

Stockton goalkeeper Mary Stornes (Galloway/Absegami) earned the win with three saves and Heather Malosky (Branchburg/Immaculata) was strong defensively with a team-high six ground balls and four caused turnovers. Coast Guard goalie Angel Fay made 15 saves in the game.

Stockton will play its home opener, the first of a five-game homestand, on Wednesday when the Ospreys host Scranton at 4 p.m.
