Late Goal Sends Stockton to 8-7 Setback

Boxscore

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (10-2, 1-1 NJAC) surrendered a goal with 43 seconds left in regulation as Rowan University (7-4, 1-0 NJAC) edged the Ospreys 8-7 on Tuesday night. Sarah Frankovic (Long Valley/West Morris) and Lauren Ivancich (Beach Haven/Southern) scored three goals apiece for the Ospreys. Frankovic also dished one assist.

The teams traded goals early in the first half, with Ivancich scoring for Stockton before the Profs tallied three straight times to take a 4-1 lead. Frankovic tallied her first goal of the night with 3:44 remaining in the half to make it 4-2 in favor of the visitors at the break.

The Profs stretched the lead to three goals once again at 5-2 with 2:05 gone in the second half before Stockton exploded for three markers in a span of 1:43. Frankovic and Ivancich scored on free positon shots and then Ivancich took a Frankovic pass to knot the game at 5-5 with 24:13 left.

Rowan went in front 6-5 just 1:17 later but Skyler Mahoney-Kendra (Tinton Falls/St. John Vianney) answered for the Ospreys to force a 6-6 deadlock. The Profs inched ahead 7-6 with 6:30 on the clock and Frankovic answered 1:19 later, tying up the contest for the third and final time at 7-7.

After over four scoreless minutes, Rachel Hofbauer gave Rowan the final lead of the night on a free position shot with 43 seconds left. Stockton gained possession on the ensuing draw but a turnover denied the Ospreys a chance to tie and they were edged 8-7.

Frankovic now has 38 goals, the most in a season by any Stockton player in the team's three years of existence, topping the mark of 36 by Zoey Kramer last year. Ivancich's three scores gave her 28 on the season, with Mahoney-Kendra getting her 14th goal of the year.

Stockton goalkeeper Mary Stornes (Galloway/Absegami) made eight saves in net. Kelsey Perst (Blairstown/North Warren) notched a game-high five caused turnovers and grabbed three ground balls. Amanda Scarpa (Manalapan/Freehold Twp.) contributed two caused turnovers to the defensive effort.

Hofbauer and Maddie Bray scored two goals each for Rowan, with Taylor Gretz leading all players with six ground balls. Erin Horner made four saves in goal for the Profs to earn her sixth win of the season.

Stockton will face Kean University in an NJAC game on Saturday at 1 p.m.
