Big First Half Propels Stockton to 10-5 Win

Union, NJ – Stockton University (11-2, 2-1 NJAC) scored seven straight goals in the first half and cruised to a 10-5 victory over Kean University (11-2, 2-1 NJAC) on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Sarah Frankovic (Long Valley/West Morris Central) led six Ospreys in scoring with four goals on the day.
 
The Cougars took the early 1-0 before Stockton rattled off seven consecutive goals. The Ospreys struck quickly as a score by Skyler Mahoney-Kendra (Tinton Falls/St. John Vianney) and two markers by Frankovic in a span of 2:09 gave Stockton a 3-1 lead with 22:30 left in the half.
 
Kim Raichelson (Brick/Brick Memorial), Sarah Brenner (Jackson/Jackson Memorial), Colleen Knight (Pennsauken/Camden Catholic) and Mary Schmid (Lumberton/Holy Cross) followed with counters for a 7-1 lead before Kean finished off the half with a goal for the 7-2 margin at the break. Freshman Tamara Torales (Basking Ridge/Ridge) dished her first career assist on Knight's goal.  
 
Two goals by Frankovic and one by Raichelson offset three scores by the home team in the second half to set the final score at 10-5 in favor of the Ospreys. The win was the fourth in the last five games for Stockton.
 
Stockton goalkeeper Mary Stornes (Galloway/Absegami) was strong in net, making a season-high 13 saves in picking up the victory. Torales led all players with three caused turnovers and tied for the team lead with with Lauren Ivancich (Beach Haven/Southern) and Kelsey Perst (Blairstown/North Warren) with three ground balls apiece.
 
Jordan Blanda and Brittany Ballack topped Kean with two goals each. Goalkeeper Nikki Apostolopoulos made seven saves in net in the loss.
 
Stockton will play again on Tuesday night when they will host Rutgers-Camden. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
