Boxscore

Camden, NJ – Stockton University (3-17, 0-5 NJAC) began a busy stretch of six conference games in four days with a 7-1 setback in an NJAC road contest at Rutgers-Camden (15-8, 3-4). Matt Mangarella (Milltown/Spotswood) went 2-4 with a double and an RBI while Dan Sweeney (Middletown/Middletown South) and Matt Poinsett (Ocean Gate/Msgr. Donovan) rapped two hits apiece.

Poinsett also walked twice while Sweeney scored Stockton's lone run of the game. The Ospreys totaled nine hits and three walks but stranded 11 runners on base.

Rutgers-Camden jumped out in front with four runs on four hits in the first inning and added one more in the second frame for a 5-0 count. Stockton starter Brandon Perna (Cherry Hill/CH West) settled in after that, tossing four scoreless innings before his day was done after the sixth stanza.

Stockton got on the board in the top of the third. With one out, Sweeney singled and Poinsett followed with a walk. Two batters later, Mangarella delivered a two-out RBI single to score Sweeney and end a 23-inning scoreless drought by the Ospreys. Rutgers-Camden tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the eighth for the 7-1 final score.

Stockton and Rutgers-Camden will square off again tomorrow at 3:30 p.m., this time in Galloway as the teams complete the home-and-home series.
