Game 1 /
Game 2
Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (19-7) extended its winning streak to five with a pair of two-run victories over Arcadia University (14-14) by scores of 5-3 and 6-4.
Holly Arentowicz (Roxbury/Roxbury) and
Dominique Dorris (Mantua/Clearview) led the Ospreys with four hits apiece in the twinbill.
In the opener,
Samantha Shockey (Deptford/Deptford) went 3-4 with a double and an RBI while Dorris was 2-3 with a double and a run. Shockey also earned the win on the mound, allowing three runs on five hits with six strikeouts, her second-highest whiff total of the season.
The game was scoreless into the bottom of the fifth when Stockton broke through for two runs.
Gianna Cuffari (Cedar Grove/Cedar Grove) was hit by a pitch and
Chelsea Thomas (Barrington/Haddon Hts.) singled. Cuffari later scored on an RBI groundout by
Danielle Lugo (Vineland/Vineland) and Thomas came home on an RBI double by Shockey.
Arcadia quickly pulled ahead 3-2 on a two-run triple by Jackie Bilotti and sacrifice fly by Nicole Iasiello in the top of the sixth. The Ospreys answered right back with three runs in the bottom half to regain the lead for good.
As she has done several times this year,
Nicole Tomo (Cedar Grove/Cedar Grove) came through with a clutch hit as she stroked a two-run double to put Stockton back on top 4-3. Pinch-hitter
Alexis Dunphy (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) delivered an RBI single to score Tomo with an insurance run and the Ospreys prevailed 5-3.
Stockton rallied from a 4-0 deficit with six unanswered runs to win the nightcap 6-4. Arentowicz went 3-4 with two RBI and a run while
Casey Schieda (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) was 2-3 with two RBI and Dorris was 2-4 with a run.
Victoria Torp (West Milford/West Milford) came out of the bullpen to pitch four scoreless innings, allowing three hits, for the win.
Arcadia scored four runs in the first three innings for a 4-0 advantage before the Ospreys roared ahead with five runs in the bottom of the third. Arentowicz and Schieda each knocked two run singles and Tomo drove in the go-ahead run once again, this time on an RBI groundout that gave Stockton a 5-4 edge.
Stockton added an unearned run in the fourth inning as Shockey walked and later scored on an error to make it 6-4. Arcadia got runners to second and third with one out in the fifth inning but a flyout to right field turned into a double play as the Ospreys appealed at third base and the runner was called out for leaving early. Torp allowed just one baserunner in the last two innings to close out the 6-4 win.
Stockton will play an NJAC doubleheader at New Jersey City on Saturday at 1 p.m. and then host No. 14 Rowan University on Sunday at 1 p.m.
