Glassboro, NJ – Stockton University (7-20, 4-8 NJAC) dropped the back end of a home-and-home against Rowan University (20-13, 8-4) 7-1 on the Profs' home field.
Tyler Hobbs (Brick/Brick Memorial) went 3-5 with an RBI on the heels of a two-hit outing yesterday. Hobbs has knocked at least two hits in four of the last seven games.
Matt Poinsett (Ocean Gate/Msgr.Donovan) was 2-5 and
Vaughn Champion (Galloway/Absegami) extended his hitting streak to seven games with a single in the sixth inning. The Ospreys equaled Rowan with 10 hits apiece but stranded 11 runners on base.
Rowan took control of the game with two runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth for a 6-0 count. Stockton left the bases loaded in the fifth frame and the Profs plated their last run in the seventh inning to make it 7-0.
Stockton spoiled the shutout in the top of the ninth.
Stephen Edelstein (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) singled and moved to third on a double by
Zach Gustites (Flemington/Hunterdon Central). Hobbs followed with an RBI single to score Edelstein and avert the shutout, but the Ospreys fell 7-1.
Stockton will host Kean University in an NJAC doubleheader tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.
