Stockton Stopped by Montclair State, 17-6

Montclair, NJ – Stockton University (12-3, 3-2 NJAC) had its offense held in check by Montclair State (9-5, 2-2) and suffered a 17-6 defeat in the next-to-last game of the regular season. The six goals equaled Stockton's lowest output of the season. The Ospreys entered the contest averaging 12.7 goals per game.
 
Mary Schmid (Lumberton/Holy Cross) and Skyler Mahoney-Kendra (Tinton Falls/St. John Vianney) scored two goals apiece for Stockton. Melanie Patterson (Jackson/Jackson Liberty) grabbed a team-high four draw controls while Amanda Scarpa (Manalapan/Freehold Twp.) chipped in with two caused turnovers, two draw controls and two ground balls.
 
After Montclair State opened the scoring, Mahoney-Kendra and Schmid netted goals 33 seconds apart to give the Ospreys a 2-1 edge. The lead lasted nearly seven minutes before the Red Hawks scored the first of four straight goals that sent Stockton to halftime trailing 6-2.
 
Mahoney-Kendra got one back 3:15 into the second half to make it 6-3 but Montclair State again reeled off four straight tallies for a 10-3 count. Sarah Frankovic (Long Valley/West Morris Central) and Schmid sandwiched goals around a Red Hawks' marker to get the Ospreys within 11-5 before another four-goal run by Montclair State put the game out of reach at 15-5.
 
Lauren Ivancich (Beach Haven/Southern Regional) scored with 8:02 remaining and the Red Hawks added two late goals for the 17-6 final score. Stockton was outshot 37-11 and goalkeeper Mary Stornes (Galloway/Absegami) finished with 10 saves.
 
Stockton will conclude the regular season with a home game against The College of New Jersey, which is ranked second in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll, on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
