Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (12-4, 3-3 NJAC) played their last regular season game and came out on the short end of a 10-1 defeat to The College of New Jersey (15-1, 5-0 NJAC) on Tuesday night. The Lions, who never trailed in the game, are ranked #2 in NCAA Division III by the IWLCA.
The start of the game was delayed 70 minutes due to lightning. Senior goalkeeper
Mary Stornes (Galloway/Absegami) made 12 saves for the Ospreys.
The Lions took control early, scoring four goals in the first six minutes. The Stockton defense faced heavy pressure in the first half as the shots were 15-1 for TCNJ, but the Ospreys battled throughout. Two more goals by the Lions made it 6-0 at the half.
Freshman
Sarah Frankovic (Long Valley/West Morris Central) scored the lone Osprey tally on a free-position shot 5:01 into the second half to get the Ospreys on the board. TCNJ potted the last four scores of the game for the 10-1 final.
Kim Raichelson (Brick/Brick Memorial) led the Ospreys with two draw controls while
Lauren Ivancich (Beach Haven/Southern Regional) registered two ground balls, one draw control and one caused turnover.
Amanda Scarpa (Manalapan/Freehold Twp.) tallied two ground balls and one draw control
Kelsey Perst (Blairstown/North Warren) finished with two ground balls and a caused turnover.
Cortney Natalicchio, Megan Devlin and Amanda Muller scored two goals each for the Lions. Freshman goalkeeper Miranda Chrone earned her 15th win if the season by making just one save.
Although other teams have conference games remaining, Stockton appears to have earned the first NJAC tournament berth in the program's three-year history with a 3-3 league record. The Ospreys most likely will be the No. 4 seed and play at top seed TCNJ in the semifinals on May 5. The NJAC playoff bracket will be officially announced on April 30.
