Game 1/
Game 2
Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (27-9, 10-4 NJAC) swept a doubleheader from Rutgers-Newark (16-18, 4-10 NJAC) by scores of 9-0 (5 inn.) and 5-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Samantha Shockey (Deptford/Deptford) led the way with five hits and three RBI on the day plus garnered the win in game one in the circle. The Ospreys mashed 27 hits on the afternoon.
Â
The Ospreys broke open a close contest in the opener as they exploded for four runs on seven straight hits in the bottom of the third, keyed by a
Holly Arentowicz (Roxbury/Roxbury) RBI double. They tacked on another five counters in the fourth inning, with the big blow being a two-RBI double by
Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) for the 9-0 margin.
Â
Shockey allowed just one hit in four innings for her 13th win of the year.
Hannah Bibeault (Hopatcong/Hopatcong) tossed the final inning for the combined shutout as the game ended on the eight-run rule after five innings. Arentowicz and
Casey Schieda (Monroe Twp. /Monroe Twp.) had three hits each, with Massa picking up three RBI.
Â
The nightcap was a different affair as the Scarlet Raiders finally broke through for a run in the top of the first against Shockey. Stockton answered with a run when
Danielle Lugo (Vineland/Vineland) doubled then scored on a Shockey RBI hit to knot the game at 1-1. The Ospreys took control of the contest in their half of the fourth, plating four runs to move the score to 5-1.
Â
The home team used four hits and two errors to score the four markers. Shockey added to her RBI total with a two-run single that plated Lugo and
Chelsea Thomas (Barrington/Haddon Heights) who had reached on a walk and single respectively. A fielder's choice and error led to the other two scores for the 5-1 advantage for Stockton.
Â
That would be all the scoring as
Victoria Torp (West Milford/West Milford) came on in relief of Shockey to throw 3.1 innings of three-hit shutout ball for her seventh win of the season. Bibeault closed out the game, allowing one hit over the final 1.2 innings as the Ospreys completed the sweep 5-1.
Â
Dominique Dorris (Mantua/Clearview) and Thomas aided the offense with two hits each in the second game. Lugo scored three times on the day, with two coming in game two.
Â
Kayla Gallo and Kelsey Lucas rapped two hits each for the visitors in the two contests, with Lucas picking up the only RBI for Rutgers-Newark. Â
