Newburgh, NY – Stockton University (13-3, 5-1 Skyline) tied the school record for wins in a season with a 13-12 overtime victory over Mount St. Mary (10-6, 1-5) in the regular season finale.
Mike Caposella (Wayne/DePaul Catholic) scored the game-winning goal 1:20 into OT. The triumph was Stockton's fifth straight, with the last two coming in overtime.
Tommy Gallo (Clinton/North Hunterdon) led the Ospreys with three goals and an assist while
Tyler Van Benschoten (Saddle Brook/St. Joseph Regional) netted three goals. Caposella finished with two goals and two assists.
Tyler Bollard (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) won 22 of 28 faceoffs and snagged 11 ground balls.
Van Benschoten scored twice while Caposella and
James O'Donnell (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) each tallied once during a high-scoring first quarter that ended with the Ospreys ahead 4-3. The Knights tied the match 1:49 into the second period but
Colin Shea (Rumson/Rumson-Fair Haven) and Gallo answered to put Stockton on top 6-4.
After Mount St. Mary pulled within one, goals by
Zack Aho (Shamong/Seneca), Shea and
Shane Moyer (North Wales, PA/Archbishop Wood) gave Stockton a 9-5 lead. The Knights responded with two straight counters to close the margin to 9-7 at the break.
Gallo and Van Benschoten scored in the third stanza before a late tally by Mount St. Mary made it 11-8 after three. Gallo struck again 58 seconds into the fourth quarter to equal Stockton's biggest lead of the game at 12-8. Mount St. Mary fought back with four goals in the last 7:28, tying the contest with 1:20 on the clock to force overtime at 12-12.

Pat Quinn (Shrewsbury/Red Bank Regional) made a save 45 seconds into OT and the Ospreys gained possession. At the offensive end, O'Donnell fired a shot high but Stockton kept the ball. Caposella then scored the game-winner assisted by Gallo with 1:20 gone to lift the Ospreys to the 13-12 victory.
Stockton is the No. 2 seed for the Skyline Conference tournament and will host No. 3 Farmingdale State in the semifinals on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
