Montclair, NJ – Stockton University (8-3, 1-1 Skyline) squared off with seven-time defending conference champion Montclair State (5-6, 1-0) and suffered a 15-9 setback. Freshman
Tommy Gallo (Clinton/North Hunterdon) led the Ospreys with two goals and an assist.
Guy Loggi (Somers Point/Mainland),
Zack Aho (Shamong/Seneca) and
Vincent Manasia (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) tossed in two goals apiece. Goalkeeper
Pat Quinn (Shrewsbury/Red Bank Regional) made 14 saves for his seventh game this year with a double-digit total.
The Red Hawks scored three goals in the first three minutes before
Mark Scherzer (Holmdel/Holmdel) got the Ospreys on the board. The teams each netted one more marker in the opening period, with Manasia finding the net for Stockton to make it 4-2.
The game slipped away from the Ospreys in the second quarter as Montclair State outscored them 6-0 for a 10-2 count at the half. Loggi opened the second-half scoring but the Red Hawks answered with four straight goals for a 14-3 margin late in the third period.
Stockton scored six of the last seven goals of the game, starting with two straight by Aho and then one by Manasia. In the last nine minutes, Gallo struck for two counters and Loggi added one to make the final score 15-9.
Stockton will travel to Rosemont for a non-conference game on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
