Swarthmore, PA – Stockton University (15-4) advanced to the championship game of the ECAC tournament with a 13-6 victory over Lebanon Valley (11-8) in a semifinal matchup at Swarthmore.
Guy Loggi (Somers Point/Mainland) and
Colin Shea (Rumson/Rumson-Fair Haven) led the Ospreys with four goals apiece. Loggi also dished one assist.
Freshman
Tommy Gallo (Clinton/North Hunterdon) scored two goals while fellow rookie
Tyler Bollard (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) won 13 of 15 faceoffs and snagged 10 ground balls. Stockton and Lebanon Valley met in the ECAC tourney for the third straight year, with the Ospreys winning all three including one-goal victories in 2014 and 2015.
Loggi needed just 1:14 to get on the board but the Dutchmen answered two minutes later. Shea followed with a pair of goals and Stockton led the rest of the way. The Ospreys held a 3-2 edge after one quarter and broke the game open on consecutive markers by Loggi, Shea and Gallo before a late Lebanon Valley counter trimmed the advantage to 6-3 at the half.
Stockton pulled away by outscoring the Dutchmen 4-0 in the third quarter as Loggi, Shea, Gallo and
Mark Scherzer (Holmdel/Holmdel) potted goals. The Ospreys extended the run to six straight on markers by Loggi and
Ryan Bradley (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) in the first five minutes of the fourth period that made it 12-3.
With an insurmountable lead, Stockton coasted from there, with freshman
Rory Alpaugh (Clinton/North Hunterdon) scoring the team's last goal of the 13-6 triumph.
Goalkeeper
Eric Leonard (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) earned the win with four saves. Stockton outshot Lebanon Valley 40-15 ono offense and forced 23 turnovers on defense.
Stockton, which already has set a school record with 15 wins this year, will try to capture the program's second ECAC championship (2002) when the Ospreys play host Swarthmore tomorrow at 1 p.m.
