New Paltz, NY– Stockton University (6-2) fell for the first time this season, dropping both matches at the New Paltz Hawks Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Ospreys lost to host New Paltz (3-4) by scores of 25-22, 25-14, 25-22 in the early match before being downed by Clarkson (5-3) in the afternoon by a 20-25, 25-20, 25-15, 19-25, 15-10 count.
In the opener,
Lindsay Schuele (Sparta/Sparta) topped the squad with nine kills while
Jessica Ciandella (Beachwood/Roselle Catholic) dished 14 assists and scooped a team-high eight digs. Freshman
Jocelyn Holobetz (Pottsville, PA/Nativity BVM) added 11 assists, with
Stephanie Kovacs (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic) spiking eight kills.
The Ospreys forced a fifth set against Clarkson after trailing two sets to one but could not prevail. Schuele again led the way with a double-double of 17 kills and 12 digs.
Idi Uffen (Williamstown/Williamstown) and Kovacs helped out with 13 and 12 kills respectively. Kovacs also served two aces for Stockton.
Ciandella had 27 assists while Holobetz dished a career-high 24 helpers.
Sarah Walsh (Flemington/Hunterdon Central) scooped a career-high 12 digs and
Natalie Miller (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson) added 14 digs to the cause.
Kovacs was named to the All-Tournament Team at the New Paltz Hawks Invitational after totaling 39 kills in Stockton's four matches.
Stockton will open up NJAC play when they host Montclair State on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
