Fredericksburg, VA – Stockton University (1-0) scored three goals in the last 16 minutes to rally past Marymount (0-1) 3-1 in the season opener at the Mary Washington Soccer Classic.
Jeff Tanski (Sicklerville/Timber Creek),
Nick Cristea (Medford/Shawnee) and
Alex Kourahanis (Sicklerville/Timber Creek) each scored a goal for the Ospreys.
Stockton fell behind early as Mynor Lopez gave Marymount a 1-0 edge 16:18 into the game. Cristea nearly tied the game three minutes later on a shot that hit the post. The Ospreys outshot the Saints 8-2 in the first half but trailed by one at the break.
Stockton finally broke through for the tying goal with 15:54 remaining in the game.
Nick Auleta (Southampton/Hammonton) served a corner kick that Tanski headed home for a 1-1 deadlock. Just 4:03 later, two newcomers combined for the go-ahead tally. Cristea, a junior college transfer, scored his first goal in a Stockton uniform and freshman
Bobby Riordan (Tinton Falls/Monmouth) earned her first career point with the assist.
Kourahanis added the exclamation point with only 29 seconds remaining on an assist by
Zach Burns (Washington Twp./Washington twp.) to seal the 3-1 Stockton victory. Freshman goalkeeper
Michael Lescano (Union/St. Benedict's Prep) collected the win in his college debut with one save. Stockton outshot Marymount 15-4 in the match.
The Ospreys will be back in action at the Mary Washington Soccer Classic tomorrow at 1 p.m. when they face the tournament-host Eagles.
