Cortland, NY – Stockton University (2-0) opened the 2016 season with two victories at the Cortland Red Dragon Classic. The Ospreys topped Lebanon Valley in four sets 25-23, 17-25, 25-20, 25-15 and then outlasted Fredonia (NY) in five sets 19-25, 25-19, 25-17, 20-25, 15-11.
Idi Uffen (Williamstown/Williamstown) led the Stockton with 28 kills and 14 blocks on the day.
Uffen spiked a career-high 15 kills and
Lindsay Schuele (Sparta/Sparta) added 13 kills against Lebanon Valley.
Jessica Ciandella (Beachwood/Roselle Catholic) dished 22 assists.
Rebecka Zabilowicz (Belmar/Red Bank Regional) paced the back row with 25 digs and Schuele added 11 digs. Zabilowicz also chipped in with three aces.
Uffen led the way against Fredonia with team highs of 13 kills and 10 blocks.
Stephanie Kovacs (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic) and freshman
Sarah Walsh (Flemington/Hunterdon Central) smacked 10 kills apiece. Ciandella handed out 25 assists and Zabilowicz tallied 31 digs.
Stockton will continue play in the Red Dragon Classic tomorrow with matches against Cortland at 11 a.m. and Nazareth at 1:30 p.m.
