Hackettstown, NJ – Stockton University (1-0) kicked off the 2016 season with a 3-0 victory over UMass-Boston (0-1) in the first game of the Cyclone Kickoff Classic at Centenary College.
Adrianna Boucher (Hamilton/Steinert) scored two goals and
Samantha Rodrigues (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) dished two assists. The Ospreys outshot UMass-Boston 32-3 in the game.
Boucher scored the only goal of the first half on a corner kick. Rodrigues served the ball into box and Boucher finished the play at the 23:51 mark for Stockton's first goal of the season. The Ospreys fired 18 shots in the half, 12 on goal, and led 1-0 at the break.
Stockton pulled away with two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Only 3:56 into the period,
Lindsey Thomas (Swedesboro/Kingsway) served a cross to Boucher for a tap-in that made it 2-0.
Abigayle Musto (Wall Twp./Wall) received a cross from Rodrigues and potted her first goal of the season just over five minutes later for a 3-0 count.
Stockton goalkeeper
Nicole Pallante (Brick/Brick Twp.), who led the NJAC with 11.3 shutouts last season, notched the first whitewash of her sophomore year with three saves. Pallante did not face a shot in the last 41 minutes of the game as the Ospreys controlled the play.
Stockton will be back in action at the Cyclone Kickoff Classic tomorrow with a game against tournament-host Centenary at 1 p.m.
