Galloway, NJ - Stockton University (2-4-2) played a spirited contest against #22 Haverford (4-1-2) on Wednesday night but came up on the short end of a 1-0 final on a goal by Ben Field with just 1:15 remaining in the second overtime. The Ospreys played hard despite being outshot 18-9.
The first half saw both teams struggle to get shots away before Haverford fired a shot that hit the post at 19:33 then another that sailed wide right 15 seconds later.
Anthony Colofranson (Woodbury Heights/Gateway) got off two attempts but both were wide of the mark.
The Ospreys gathered some momentum at 64:15 of the second half when
Tyler Mills (East Windsor/Hightstown) had a shot blocked and
Nick Cristea (Medford/Shawnee) had a shot that was turned away nine seconds later.
The teams traded attempts on net during the next 15 minutes but both were turned away. Stockton netminder
Michael Lescano (Union/St. Benedict's Prep) turned away one last Haverford attempt with 1:13 left in regulation to send it to the extra frames.
Haverford fired the only shot on net in the first extra period but Lescano was up to the task and the game went to double OT.
Alex Kourahanis (Sicklerville/Timber Creek) registered a shot wide left, before Field ended it with a rebound goal after Lescano punched a shot away.
Lescano made six saves in taking the loss for Stockton while Fords goalie Sam Miller kicked out three shots.
Stockton's next match will be Saturday when the Ospreys travel to NJAC foe Ramapo for a 1 p.m start.
