Mahwah, NJ - Stockton University (13-6, 2-1 NJAC) saw their 14-match winning streak against NJAC opponents come to a halt with a 3-1 defeat to Ramapo (15-3, 3-0 NJAC) on Tuesday night. The set scores were 25-23, 17-25, 25-23 and 25-23. Ironically, Ramapo was the last NJAC team to defeat Stockton, by a 3-0 score on October 28, 2014.
Ramapo took the close first set 25-23 despite Stockton's
Sarah Walsh (Flemington/Hunterdon Central) spiking four of her 10 kills on the night in the first frame. The Ospreys rebounded with a second-set victory 25-17 to even the match.
Lindsay Schuele (Sparta/Sparta) and
Idi Uffen (Williamstown/Williamstown) had three kills each to lead Stockton. The Roadrunners took the last two sets by identical 25-23 scores.
In the final set, Stockton rallied from a 21-18 deficit by scoring four straight points to take a brief 22-21 lead. Kills by
Jenna Lara (Ridgefield/Ridgefield) and
Allie Desmond (Ellicott City, MD/Marriotts Ridge), an ace by
Jessica Ciandella (Beachwood/Roselle Catholic) and a Ramapo errorput Stockton in front. Ramapo then scored four of the next five points to down the Ospreys. Uffen topped Stockton with four more kills in the frame.
Uffen and Walsh led the Ospreys on the night with 13 and 10 kills respectively. Ciandella and
Faith Hoagland (Demarest/Northern Valley Demarest) dished 20 assists each, with Ciandella also serving a game-high three aces.
Rebecka Zabilowicz (Belmar/Red Bank Regional) scooped a match-high 28 digs, while Lara tallied four blocks and Schuele contributed 12 digs and three blocks.
For Ramapo, Larysa Iwaskiw topped all players with 30 kills and added 13 digs plus four blocks. Rachel Selmore led all players with a match-high 27 assists and scooped 10 digs. Kristen Behrens added 17 digs while Kate Shirkey dished 15 assists to aid the offense.
Stockton will have a week off before traveling to face William Paterson next Tuesday October 4. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
