Boxscore

Galloway, NJ – Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) scored her second goal of the game with 5:44 remaining as Stockton University (3-0) downed Swarthmore (2-2) 3-2 in the Ospreys' home opener on Thursday afternoon. The victory kept Stockton unbeaten and gave the team its first 3-0 start in school history.

The game started out evenly with the shots 7-5 in favor of the Ospreys during the first half. Sarah Gawrysiak (Haddon Twp./Haddon Twp.) broke the scoreless affair as she tapped in a nice feed from Leah Davies (Ocean City/Ocean City) with just 2:05 left in the half to give Stockton a 1-0 lead.

Massa tallied her first goal of the contest early in the second half with a blast off a penalty corner pass from Laura Olbrich (Pittsgrove/A.P. Schalick) for a 2-0 advantage. The lead was short-lived as the Garnet's Melissa Zavez and Lizzy Stant scored 10 minutes apart to knot the game at 2-2 with 16:39 remaining in regulation, setting up some tense final minutes.

Swarthmore goalkeeper Zelda Bank stopped Olbrich from point-blank range with 7:43 left to keep the game tied for the time being. Massa potted her third goal of the season with a shot from the top of the arc, on another penalty corner pass from Olbrich, with 5:44 remaining to put the Ospreys on top 3-2. Stockton's defense then held off the Garnet in the last few minutes to seal the victory.

Stockton goalkeeper Emily Sorochynskyj (Boonton/Boonton) saw her scoreless streak end at 201:50 but made eight saves in picking up her third win of the season. Bank kicked out six shots as she evened her record at 2-2 for Swarthmore.

Stockton will play the second of a three-game homestand when they face Muhlenberg on Saturday at noon.
