Stockton Wins 70-69 on Harmon Tip-In

Boxscore

Union, NJ – Stockton University (9-5, 2-4 NJAC) junior Marcus Harmon (Whitesboro/Middle Twp.) tipped in a missed three-point try with three seconds remaining to give the Ospreys a 70-69 victory over winless Kean University (0-15, 0-9). The late basket gave Stockton its third straight win and sixth in the last seven games.

Zavon Johnson (Trenton/West Windsor Plainsboro South) shot 6-10 from three-point range and finished with a career-high 21 points. Brandon Hamilton (Camden/Paulsboro) also hit double digits with 11 points followed by Tom Catanoso (Cape May CH/Middle Twp.) with eight.

Hamilton, Catanoso and Maurice Hart (Asbury Park/Asbury Park) all hit early three-pointers as Stockton built a 13-5 lead. From there, Kean heated up while the Ospreys cooled off. Stockton shot just 34.5 percent for the half while the Cougars connected at 60 percent, resulting in a 36-27 deficit for the Ospreys at the break.

Kean scored the first seven points of the second half and Stockton trailed 43-27 early in the period. The Ospreys whittled the margin slightly over the next eight minutes but still were behind 56-45 after two free throws by Harmon at the 10-minute mark.

The free throws ignited a 14-point run highlighted by two three-pointers from Johnson and one from Catanoso that put the Ospreys on top 57-56 with 6:27 to play. The lead then changed hands six times in the next six minutes. Kean took a 69-68 edge on a layup by Justin Watson with 10 seconds left.

Catanoso then fired a three-pointer that was off the mark, but Harmon got to the rebound and tipped it in with three seconds left to give the Ospreys the dramatic 70-69 triumph.

Stockton will be on the road again on Wednesday for an NJAC game at Rowan at 8 p.m.
