Stockton Outscored by Rowan 106-90

Boxscore

Glassboro, NJ – Stockton University (9-6, 4-5 NJAC) registered its highest point total since November 28 but could not keep pace with the Rowan University's (10-7, 6-4) up-tempo style in a 106-90 defeat. Maurice Hart (Asbury Park/Asbury Park) tied his career high of 24 points to lead five Ospreys in double figures.

Khaliq Ford (Millville/Millville) scored 19 points followed by Tom Catanoso (Cape May CH/Middle Twp.), Brandon Hamilton (Camden/Paulsboro) and Kashaun Barnes (Toms River/Manchester Twp.) with 11 points apiece. The Ospreys outscored Rowan 32-21 at the free throw line but shot just 2-15 (13.3%) from three-point range and were outscored 33-6 from beyond the arc.

Hart sank one of Stockton's two three-pointers just 3:24 into the game for a 7-4 edge that was the last lead of the game for the Ospreys. Two free throws by Hart later got Stockton within four at 24-20 before a 17-7 Rowan spurt made it a 41-27 count.

Ford scored six points in the last two minutes of the first half to keep the margin at single digits, 50-41 in Rowan's favor at the intermission. Hart and Ford paced the Ospreys with 13 and nine first-half points respectively.

Three-point shooting proved key in the second half as Rowan went 8-16 (50%) while Stockton was 0-8, a 24-point difference. Trailing by 18, the Ospreys used a 16-2 run to close the gap to four, 79-75, with 8:32 remaining. Stockton went 10-11 at the line and Ford scored five points during the rally.

The Ospreys' momentum fizzled quickly as Rowan responded with a 13-2 outburst over the next three minutes that pushed the margin all the way up to 15 (92-77) with 5:28 on the clock. Stockton was unable to mount another charge and fell to the Profs for the second time this season, 106-90.

Stockton returns home to host Ramapo on Saturday at 1 p.m. The game will feature a halftime ceremony honoring former head coach Gerry Matthews, who retired in the fall after 603 wins in 30 seasons on the Stockton bench.
