Hoboken, NJ – Stockton University (9-4) was outlasted 4-3 in overtime in a back-and-forth non-conference game at Stevens (5-7). The Ospreys led early then trailed before forcing overtime but eventually falling to the Ducks.
Sarah Fisher (Monroeville/Woodstown) gave Stockton a quick 1-0 edge with her third goal of the season at the 6:58 mark.
Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) registered the first of her three assists on the night. Twenty minutes later,
Rebecca Bausher (New Egypt/New Egypt) netted her third goal, assisted by Massa, on a penalty corner for a 2-0 count.
Stevens started a three-goal run with a marker by Victoria Alvarez just 1:02 before halftime. The Ducks' Cassidy O'Hearn tied it 10:55 into the second half and went ahead 3-2 on another goal by Alvarez 5:07 later.
The Ospreys trailed for only 1:06 before
Britney Stein (Ocean City/Ocean City) finished a long pass from Massa to knot the game 3-3. The tally was Stein's sixth of the season. Stockton was outshot 7-1 over the last 16 minutes but managed to survive thanks to a defensive save by
Caroline Bowman (Ocean City/Ocean City) and three stops by
Emily Sorochynskyj (Boonton/Boonton).
The overtime was brief as Alvarez completed a hat trick with the game-winner 1:53 into OT to send Stockton home with a 4-3 setback.
Starting goalkeeper
Emily Gilligan (West Deptford/West Deptford) made five saves in the first 45:55 before yielding to Sorochynskyj, who made five stops in the last 22:58.
Stockton will host Kean in an NJAC game on Saturday at 1 pm. The Cougars are unbeaten (13-0) and ranked #14 in the NFHCA coaches poll.
