Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (9-5, 1-2 NJAC) returned to its home field after two straight road games but suffered a 5-0 setback to unbeaten #14 Kean University (15-0, 3-0 NJAC). The Ospreys faced a tough task against a Kean team that came into the contest averaging 4.29 goals per game.
Stockton goalkeeper
Emily Sorochynskyj (Boonton/Boonton) made an outstanding blocker save on Kean's first shot of the game but unfortunately for the Ospreys, the rebound went right to Lia DiPiazza who gave the Cougars an early 1-0 lead.
Two minutes later, Stockton's first foray into the scoring arc led to a two-shot salvo by
Britney Stein (Ocean City/Ocean City), however neither attempt found the mark. Kean goals by Krista LaMaina at 15:02 and Jenna Patrone at 31:02 put the Ospreys into a 3-0 hole.
Stockton's best scoring chance came on a penalty corner just over eight minutes into the second half.
Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) lofted a high shot that was labeled for the far side of the cage. Kean defender Katie-Lynne Lussier batted down the floater for a defensive save that kept the Ospreys off the board.
Later in the half, Kean's Teresa Carr scored a pair of unassisted goals 15 minutes apart to close the scoring in the 5-0 setback for the Ospreys. Shots were 19-13 and penalty corners 12-11, both in favor of the Cougars.
Sorochynskyj played a total of 51:19 and made three saves.
Emily Gilligan (West Deptford/West Deptford) saw action for 18:41 and also finished with three stops. Kean goalie Megan Houser earned the shutout with six saves. Massa topped the Ospreys with five shots, including three on goal.
After battling #14 Kean today, Stockton will face an even higher-ranked opponent on Tuesday when the Ospreys host #4 The College of New Jersey at 5 pm.
