Stockton Plays 1-1 Draw with TCNJ

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (10-3-2, 2-3-1 NJAC) and The College of New Jersey (4-7-3, 0-3-3) played a 1-1 tie in an NJAC game at G. Larry James Stadium. The Ospreys were 4:23 away from victory when TCNJ netted the equalizer.

Freshman Ervin Gjeli (Hasbrouck Hts./Hasbrouck Hts.) scored his first career goal for Stockton. The tally came at the 67:11 mark and gave the Ospreys a 1-0 lead. Gjeli received a short pass from Dan Marino (Turnersville/Washington Twp.) and fired a 30-yard rocket into the top right corner.

The Ospreys protected the lead for nearly 20 minutes before Abdullah Afridi corralled a loose ball and fired a low shot home from the middle of the box to pull the Lions into a 1-1 tie with 4:23 left in regulation.

Gjeli nearly won it on Stockton's only shot of the first overtime, but his volley from in close sailed high. Things opened up in the second OT as the teams combined for seven shots (4-3 TCNJ) and the Ospreys earned two corner kicks. The best chance came from TCNJ's Peter Dresch, who hit the post with 4:01 to play.

Overall, the Lions outshot Stockton 18-13, with the Ospreys doubling their foes 6-3 in shots on goal and holding an 11-4 advantage in corners. Stockton generated scoring chances throughout regulation but settled for the 1-1 draw. Goalkeeper Kellen Groover (Florence/Life Center) finished with two saves while Michael Kayal made five stops for TCNJ.

Stockton will go on the road on Saturday for an NJAC game at William Paterson that kicks off at 5:30 pm.
