Stockton Posts 2-0 Win Over William Paterson

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (6-9-1, 2-5-0 NJAC) scored a goal in each half and registered a 2-0 shutout win over William Paterson (8-6-1, 2-4-1 NJAC) on Saturday afternoon. The Osprey defense was outstanding, limiting the Pioneers to just five shots on the day.  Mairead McKeary (Cranford/Cranford) and Salena LeDonne (Parsippany/Parsippany) scored goals for Stockton.

Stockton started strong as they pressured the Pioneers early in the contest. They broke through at 8:12 when Emily Frazee (Port Republic/Cedar Creek) crossed a pass to the middle of the box, where it deflected off a Pioneers defender.

McKeary took advantage of the opportunity and potted her third goal of the season for a 1-0 lead. The defense clamped down for the rest of the period, letting just one shot get through and keeping the one goal margin at the break.

The Ospreys kept up the pace in the final stanza, keeping the visitors off the scoreboard. In the 71st minute, LeDonne tallied the insurance goal when a Stockton cross, deflected off the net minder and crossbar to the freshman. Her volley hit the back of the net for her third marker this season, and set the final score at 2-0 in favor of the home team.

Goalkeeper Nicole Pallante (Brick/Brick Twp.) posted her third shutout of the season with a four save effort. Pioneers goalie Angela Sandelli made five saves in the loss.

Stockton will play the second of a three-game homestead on Tuesday when they will face non-conference foe Centenary College. Game time is scheduled for 7 pm.
