Stockton Sweeps New Jersey City

Jersey City, NJ – Stockton University (18-8, 5-2 NJAC) rolled to a 3-0 NJAC victory over New Jersey City (11-11, 1-6 NJAC) by scores of 25-13, 25-9, 25-11. The Ospreys trailed for just two points in the entire match.
 
Allie Desmond (Ellicott City, MD/Marriotts Ridge) led Stockton with 10 kills followed by freshman Julie Kohlhoff (West Islip, NY/West Islip) with a career-high nine kills and a match-high four blocks.
 
Setters Emily Sullivan (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) and Alice Brandt (Floral Park, NY/Floral Park) dished 11 and 10 assists respectively while Erin Thompson (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) paced the back row with six digs. Stockton registered a torrid .522 hitting percentage, with 42 kills and just six errors.
 
Three early kills by Stephanie Kovacs (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic) sparked the Ospreys to a 4-0 lead in the first set, and they kept rolling throughout the match. Stockton opened up a 10-2 advantage and cruised to the 25-13 victory.
 
The Ospreys trailed 1-0 and 2-1 in the second set but later seized control with a 6-1 run that was highlighted by three kills from Desmond and resulted in a 10-5 lead. Three kills from Kohlhoff during a six-point run made it 16-7 and Stockton rolled to a 25-9 win.
 
The third set was more of the same. A 10-1 spurt in the middle of the stanza increased Stockton's lead to 17-5. The outburst featured two kills by Desmond and two aces by Kennedy Hubbard (Moorestown/Moorestown). Another kill by Desmond on match point sealed the triumph, 25-11.
 
On Saturday, Stockton will travel to Rowan and play neutral-site contests against NYU and Stevenson as part of the quad match that the Profs are hosting.
