Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (12-3-3, 3-3-2) netted four goals in the second half to break open a scoreless game and defeat New Jersey (4-11-2, 0-7-1) by a 4-0 count in an NJAC match at G. Larry James Stadium. Four different Ospreys scored goals and three more dished assists in a balanced outing.
Stockton applied offensive pressure throughout the first half. The Ospreys tallied 12 shots and seven corner kicks but most of the attempts were off target and they finished the period with just two shots on goal.
Stockton finally broke through on a goal by
Justin Ruiz (Wayne/Wayne Hills) at the 63:20 mark.
Ervin Gjeli (Hasbrouck Hts./Hasbrouck Hts.) send a long ball into the box that went off the sliding goalie's hands and right to Ruiz, who deposited it into the open net from 15 yards away.
Just 1:31 later,
Alex Cella (Matawan/Matawan) made it 2-0. Cella found himself wide open in the middle of the box. His initial shot was saved by NJCU goalie Aldahir Cazun but he scored on the rebound.
Two Gothic Knights received their second yellow cards of the game with 16:17 remaining and Stockton played the rest of the way with a two-man advantage.
Dante Montesinos (West Long Branch/Shore Regional) upped the margin to 3-0 with an assist by
Nicolas Bogen (Franklin/Franklin) at 78:31.
Freshman
Ryan Anderson (Lunberton/King's Christian) capped the 4-0 win by scoring his first career goal with 5:41 remaining.
Bobby Riordan (Tinton Falls/Monmouth) fired a shot that was stopped by Cazun and Anderson potted the rebound.
Stockton outshot New Jersey City 29-4 on the day. Ospreys' goalkeeper
Kellen Groover (Florence/Life Center) made three saves to earn his sixth shutout of the season, two easy stops on long shots and one lunging save on a sharp-angle try late in the game to preserve the clean sheet. Cazun finished with four saves for NJCU.
Stockton will conclude a three-game homestand on Monday night when the Ospreys host Eastern University at 7 pm.
