Stockton Holds on for 2-1 Win over Goucher

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (10-7) scored two goals in the first half and outlasted Goucher College (4-10) by a 2-1 margin on Tuesday night. Jacquie Fenton (Ocean City/Ocean City) and Sarah Gawrysiak (Haddon Twp./Haddon Twp.) tallied the markers for Stockton on Senior Night and helped the team snap a four-game skid.

The game started slowly, as the teams were vying for openings until Fenton's goal at 18:50 of the first period. She potted a rebound off a blocked shot to give the Ospreys a 1-0 advantage. In the 26th minute, Gawrysiak blasted her fourth goal of the season to put Stockton up by two scores.

Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) found her senior teammate from 10 yards out and Gawrysiak found the back of the cage for the two-goal margin that lasted through the rest of the half. After the break, the Gophers came out quickly to start the second stanza.

The visitors picked up the pace, outshooting Stockton 6-3 in the half, but could only get two on net. The Gophers finally broke through the Osprey defense at 44:38 of the second half. Maya Belin hit the back of the cage off a scramble in front to cut the lead to 2-1 in favor of Stockton.

From there, the Ospreys had to withstand four shots and kill off a two-minute disadvantage due to a green card. The defense stiffened and the Ospreys prevailed by the one goal at 2-1 for their 10th win of the season. Stockton reached double digits for the second time in the program's history. Stockton won 12 times in 2013 to set the school record for wins in a season.

Ospreys' goalkeeper Emily Sorochynskyj (Boonton/Boonton) made four saves in net to earn her fourth win of the season. Liz Zengel kicked out five shots for Goucher in net.

The Ospreys will finish the regular season on Saturday when they travel to Rowan University. Game time is set for noon.
