Stockton Downed 2-1 on Late Goal

Glassboro, NJ – Stockton University (10-8, 1-5 NJAC) finished the regular season with a 2-1 setback to Rowan University (13-5, 4-2 NJAC) in a conference game on the road. Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) scored for the Ospreys but a late goal by Rowan decided the outcome.

The game was scoreless through 46 minutes until Julie Johnson put Stockton behind 1-0. Just under three minutes later, Massa took a shot that deflected in off a defender's stick to pull the Ospreys into a 1-1 tie. The goal was Massa's team-leading 14th of the season, tying the second-highest total in program history.

Stockton nearly took the lead twice down the stretch. Leah Davies (Ocean City/Ocean City) had a scoring chance denied on a defensive save by a Rowan defender and Rebecca Bausher (New Egypt/New Egypt) hit the post with a shot. Rowan also hit a post with a shot while the game score was 1-1.

A yellow card on Stockton with 6:24 remaining put the Ospreys shorthanded. Rowan capitalized on the man-advantage just over two minutes later as Dayna DeVincentz scored the goal that proved to be the difference with 4:11 on the clock.

Stockton nearly pulled the upset despite being on the wrong end of a 20-7 margin in shots and 16-3 in penalty corners. Ospreys' goalkeeper Emily Sorochynskyj (Boonton/Boonton) made eight saves while her counterpart Carly DeMarco notched five stops.

Stockton finished the regular season with a 10-8 record. The Ospreys reached double digits in wins for the second time in 15 seasons of intercollegiate field hockey (12 wins in 2013).
