Stockton Advances to ECAC Semifinals, 4-2

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (11-8) scored the first two goals of the game and stayed in front the rest of the way to defeat Albright (9-10) by a 4-2 score in the ECAC quarterfinals. Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) notched her third hat trick of the season to lead the Ospreys.

Britney Stein (Ocean City/Ocean City) chipped in with a goal and an assist. Stockton, which is making its second ECAC Tournament appearance (2013, 2017), advanced to face Alvernia on Saturday in the semifinals.

Massa's first goal came on a penalty corner. Victoria Caiazzo (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) inserted the ball to Massa, whose blast from the top of the arc with 8:58 gone became her 15th goal of the year. The senior moved into sole possession of second in Stockton history for goals in a season.

Eleven minutes later, Massa received a feed from Casey Cordonna (Barrington/Haddon Hts.) and fired a one-timer into the cage to double the lead to 2-0. The assist was the first career point for the freshman Cordonna, who has been steady as can be on defense in her rookie year.

Albright's Amanda Long cut the margin to one later in the half, but Stein netted her seventh goal of the season with just 56 seconds left in the stanza to boost the lead back to two at 3-1.

Albright closed the gap again 5:58 into the second half on a marker by Annette Helmandollar. The Ospreys stayed on the attack with advantages of 5-3 in shots and 5-1 in corners while it was a one-goal game.

Massa tacked on an insurance tally and completed her hat trick with 10:34 remaining. Stein inserted a penalty corner to Massa, who hit a rocket from the top of the arc that sailed into the net. The goal gave Massa 42 points on the season, one off the school record of 43 by Susie Balidemaj in 2013. Stockton limited Albright to two shots and two corners the rest of the way in sealing the 4-2 victory.

Stockton goalkeeper Emily Sorochynskyj (Boonton/Boonton) earned the win with three saves. Aileen Taylor finished with six stops for the Lions.

Stockton will travel to Alvernia for the ECAC Tournament semifinals on Saturday and face the host Golden Wolves at 11 AM. A victory would move the Ospreys into the ECAC title game on Sunday at noon.
