Stockton Snaps Skid with 3-1 Victory

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (9-2-1) ended a brief two-match losing skid with a 3-1 non-conference win over Ursinus (2-8-0) on Tuesday night. Christian Bik (Vineland/St. Augustine), Darnell Lopez (Patterson/St. Benedict's) and Dante Montesinos (West Long Branch/Shore Regional) tallied goals for the Ospreys.

The Bears scored first at 8:19, when Alexis Ayala tapped in a centering pass from Noah Kilday for the 1-0 lead. The lead was short lived when Bik knotted the game at 1-1just 56 seconds later. Nick Cristea (Medford/Shawnee) gained the end line and passed to Larry Abanilla (Union/Union Catholic), who tipped the pass to Bik who scored easily.

In the 32nd minute of the half, Lopez scored what would prove to be the game winner. Drew Ruble (Medford/Shawnee) took a shot that was knocked skyward and hit the crossbar. The rebound came straight to Lopez and his header gave Stockton a 2-1 margin that would remain that way until the half.

Montesinos salted the game away in the 68th minute. The freshman nailed a crossing pass from Kyle Leach (Pitman/Pitman) to give the Ospreys an insurance tally. Ursinus had one last attempt with just over nine minutes remaining, but a shot that made its way past Kellen Groover (Florence/Life Center Academy) was headed away by Max Bond (Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill West) to preserve the 3-1 final score.

Groover made two saves in earning his ninth win of the season for Stockton, as Stockton held a 18-7 advantage on shots and 9-3 margin on corner kicks. Bears net minder Brandon Lillian kicked out four shots for the visitors.

Stockton will play the second of four straight home matches on Friday afternoon, when they will face Rosemont College in a non-conference matchup. Game time is set for 4 pm.
