Stockton Falls to #13 Rutgers Newark 4-1

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (10-3-1, 2-3-0 NJAC) played a tough game but fell to #13 Rutgers-Newark (14-1-0, 5-0-0 NJAC) by a 4-1 score on Saturday afternoon. Christian Bik (Vineland/St. Augustine) tallied the only score of the day for the Ospreys. The Scarlet Raiders are ranked nationally by the United Soccer Coaches.
 
The visitors got off to a quick start, hitting the net 2:22 into the contest for a 1-0 lead. A defensive giveaway by the Ospreys allowed the Scarlet Raiders to expand the margin to 2-0 at 11:16. Bik was able to cut the lead in half on a header in the 25th minute.
 
Eucario Solano (Galloway/Absegami) volleyed a corner kick that Bik headed in for his fourth goal of the season to cut the lead to 2-1 in favor of Rutgers Newark. Both squads clamped down defensively and that was the score at the break.
 
The second stanza was all Scarlet Raiders as they potted two more goals and allowed just two shots on net to set the final score at 4-1. Chigozie Atubi led the way with two goals and an assist for the Scarlet Raiders on the day, as they outshot Stockton 20-12 for the game.
 
Kellen Groover (Florence/Life Center Academy) made five saves in net for the Ospreys, but suffered his third loss of the season. His counterpart Andres Medina kicked out three shots in 88:13 before being relieved by Klaivert Chuquirima, who finished up with one save to his credit.
 
Stockton will play the last of their four-match homestand on Wednesday night when they will face The College of New Jersey in an NJAC tilt. Game time is set for 7 pm.
