Stockton Rallies Past Rutgers-Newark 2-1

Newark, NJ – Stockton University (4-8-1, 1-4 NJAC) erased an early deficit by scoring the last two goals of the game to down Rutgers-Newark (8-6, 2-3) 2-1. Salena LeDonne (Parsippany/Parsippany) and Mairead McKeary (Cranford/Cranford) each scored once. The victory snapped a six-game winless streak (0-5-1) for the Ospreys.

Haley Savva gave the Scarlet Raiders the early lead just 3:45 into the game. Nearly 20 minutes passed before LeDonne buried a shot from the left side for her second goal of the season, pulling Stockton into a 1-1 tie. The tally was Stockton's first in over 614 minutes. The Ospreys outshot Rutgers-Newark 10-7 in the first half, which ended with the teams deadlocked.

The momentum swung in the second half as the Scarlet Raiders outshot Stockton 12-4, but it was the Ospreys who were able to break through for the only goal of the period. The tie was broken with 26:32 remaining.

Dasey DiElmo (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands) played the ball over the top and McKeary tracked it down and scored the eventual game-winner. The marker was McKeary's first of the season and lifted Stockton to its first victory since September 14 with the 2-1 triumph.

Stockton goalkeeper Nicole Pallante (Brick/Brick Twp.) earned the win with nine saves, six of which came in the second half. Pallante's best stops came on a 20-yard shot that she tipped off the crossbar while the score was tied 1-1 and a diving save on a free kick with 22:19 remaining to preserve the slim lead.

Stockton will host Staten Island in a non-conference game at G. Larry James Stadium on Monday evening at 7 pm.
