Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (5-1, 2-1 NJAC) rebounded from their first loss of the season, rolling to a 77-47 victory over Ramapo College (2-5, 0-3 NJAC) on Saturday afternoon. Junior
Colleen Branagan (Matawan/Matawan)Â along with seniors
Najha Treadwell (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) and
Lea Mendolla (Nutley/Mount St. Dominic) scored 16 points each in the blowout.
Â
The Roadrunners came out in a zone defense to start the game, forcing Stockton to shoot from long range to no avail. With the visitors leading 11-7, Branagan fired in three from behind the arc, along with one each from freshmenÂ
Hailee Porricelli (Howell/Freehold Twp.) and
Sammi Dabbundo (Philadelphia, PA/Bishop Eustace), to give Stockton a lead it would not relinquish. The Ospreys pulled away with a 13-4 run for a 24-15 first-quarter advantage.
Â
Stockton kept up the pressure on three-pointers by Brangan and Mendolla as they forced Ramapo out of the zone into a man-to-man defense where the inside game of the Ospreys took over. Treadwell scored all eight of her first-half points in the second period, followed by Porricelli who tallied four of her seven points in the game, giving Stockton a commanding 45-26 lead at the break.
Â
Treadwell kept up her scoring during the third frame with six more markers as Stockton increased the lead to 62-38 after three periods. Ten of Ramapo's 12 points in the quarter came at the foul line. The final period became academic as every Stockton player saw action. The Ospreys rattled off the first eight points of the period and cruised to the 77-47 victory.
Â
Branagan's 16 points were a career high as she shot 5-8 from three-point land. Treadwell (7-12) and Mendolla (7-14) both shot over 50% for the contest, with Porricelli dishing a game-high four assists.
Sasha Williams (Cherry Hill/CH West) added 12 points, a game-high 14 rebounds and swatted away four Ramapo attempts. Stockton had assists on 18 of their 29 baskets for the game. Â
Â
Jina Crawford and Samantha Rinaldi led the Roadrunners with 10 points each. Alie Wickersham grabbed nine rebounds while teammate Tia Solomon blocked a game-high five shots.
Â
Stockton will play Rutgers-Camden on the road for their next game on Wednesday night. Game time is set for 6 pm.
