Camden, NJ –Stockton University (5-4, 1-3 NJAC) utilized a balanced offense with four players in double figures to down Rutgers-Camden (1-6, 0-4) 85-77 for its first conference win of the season. The Ospreys dominated the boards 44-27 and two players registered double-doubles.
Kashaun Barnes (Toms River/Manchester Twp.) topped Stockton with 19 points while
Steve Ferebee (Galloway/Absegami) continued his strong play with 17 markers and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Onnir Kendall (Williamstown/Williamstown) had a perfect shooting night, going 6-6 from the floor and 3-3 at the line for 15 points.
Marcus Harmon (Whitesboro/Middle Twp.) chipped in with 12 points and 11 boards. Stockton grabbed 19 offensive rebounds and converted them into 27 second-chance points. The Ospreys also shot 76.7 percent (23-30) at the free throw line.
Trailing 22-19, Stockton exploded for 15 straight points to build a 34-22 lead. Ferebee hit three consecutive three-pointers, followed by old-fashioned three-point plays by Kendall and
Kevin Allen (Atlantic City/Atlantic City). Rutgers-Camden answered with an 11-2 run before Kendall sank a layup with two second left to give the Ospreys a 38-33 edge at the break.
Stockton began the second half with a 6-2 spurt on a three-pointer by Harmon and another three-point play by Kendall to open up a 44-35 advantage. The Scarlet Raptors rallied again, tying the game three times, the last coming at 61-61 with 5:52 on the clock.
Barnes answered with two straight layups to make it 65-61 and Stockton stayed in front the rest of the way. The Ospreys went a perfect 12-12 at the line in the last four minutes to close out the 85-77 triumph.
Stockton will host William Paterson in an NJAC game at 1 pm on Saturday that will feature a halftime ceremony officially recognizing The Sports Center floor as Gerry Matthews Court.
