Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (2-0) fell behind 4-1 early then exploded for 12 of the next 13 goals as the Ospreys downed FDU-Florham (0-1) 17-7 on Tuesday afternoon.
Brandon Nunez (Freehold/Freehold Twp.) led the way with four goals for the Ospreys in their home opener.
The Devils started strong in their first game of the season, nailing two goals to offset a
Tyler Bollard (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) score for a 2-1 lead after one period. FDU-Florham scored the first two goals of the second period for a 4-1 count before Stockton exploded for six goals in the frame, with four coming in a seven-minute span.
Three markers by Nunez and one each by
Mike Caposella (Wayne/DePaul Catholic) and
Chris Kaczmarski (Somers Point/Mainland) put Stockton up 5-4. Nunez and Caposella sandwiched goals around a Devils score to make it 7-5 in favor of Stockton at the break.
The third quarter was all Ospreys as they tallied six goals while holding the Devils off the scoreboard for a commanding 13-5 advantage.
Colin Shea (Rumson/Rumson-Fair Haven) nailed two of his three scores on the day, with
Jamar Hall (Logan Twp./Kingsway),
Tommy Gallo (Clinton/North Hunterdon), Caposella and Nunez rounding out the goal scorers in the period.
The final period was academic as Stockton outscored the visitors 4-2. Hall, Shea, Zach Aho (Shamong/Seneca) and
Lance Pecina (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) found the net in the fourth quarter as Stockton coasted to the 17-7 win.
In addition to Nunez's four goals, Caposella and Shea scored three times each, with Hall hitting the net twice. Bollard won 19 of 25 faceoffs and scooped a game-high 13 ground balls. Stockton outshot FDU-Florham 61-25 on the afternoon and forced 25 turnovers on defense.
Eric Leonard won his second game of the season in net, making six saves.
Ty Tracey scored two goals for the Devils. Goalkeeper Tom Tornetto kicked out 23 shots in net in taking the loss.
Stockton will be off until March 1, when they face Haverford College at 7 pm in the second of a three-game homestand.
