Stockton Wins Third Straight, 69-54

Montclair, NJ – Stockton University (12-9, 7-8 NJAC) defeated Montclair State (11-11, 8-7) for the second time in six days as the Ospreys went on the road and prevailed 69-54. Stockton sank 12 three-pointers and went 17-19 (89.5%) at the line to post its third straight win.
 
Tom Catanoso (Cape May CH/Middle Twp.) hit five treys and scored a career-high 21 points. Catanoso also dished a game-high five assists. Kashaun Barnes (Toms River/Manchester Twp.) came off the bench to sink three threes and tally 17 points, one off his career high. Freshman Steve Ferebee (Galloway/Absegami) also came within one point of a career high, finishing with nine markers.
 
Stockton controlled the first half, led by Catanoso who went a perfect 4-4 from beyond the arc for 12 points. As a team, the Ospreys were 8-16 (50%) from three-point range and 5-5 at the stripe. Two three-pointers by Catanoso followed by one from Ferebee capped a 16-2 run that gave the Ospreys an early 16-4 lead.
 
Montclair State later got within six but Barnes answered with a three-pointer that ignited a 14-4 run. Catanoso ended the spurt with another three-pointer that made it 39-23 on the way to a 43-29 advantage at the break.
 
Brandon Hamilton (Camden/Paulsboro) opened the second half with a three-pointer that gave Stockton its biggest lead at 46-29. The Red Hawks closed the gap to nine twice in the second half but Catanoso answered each time by sinking two free throws and the Ospreys cruised to the 69-54 victory.
 
Stockton begins a two-game homestand on Wednesday when the Ospreys host Rutgers-Newark at 8 p.m.
