Reading, PA – Stockton University (0-1) opened the 2017 season with a 10-5 road loss to Albright College (2-1) on Wednesday night. Alexa Rubino (Voorhees/Eastern) and Gaby Ojeda (Galloway/Absegami) scored two goals each for Stockton in the loss.
 
Rubino tallied her first two career goals in the first half but it was not enough, as Albright hit the net five times for a 5-2 advantage at the half. Five different players scored goals for Lions in the first period.
 
The margin grew to 7-2 in favor of Albright, before two goals in a span of 1:33 by Mary Schmid (Lumberton/Holy Cross) and Ojeda cut the lead to 7-4. The Lions scored three more times to increase the advantage to 10-4 before Ojeda capped the scoring with 7:18 remaining in the game, and set the final score at 10-5 in favor of the home team.
 
The Ospreys were able to squeeze off 23 shots on the evening, including 13 on net and held a 17-15 advantage in ground balls for the game. In addition to Rubino and Ojeda's two goals, Schmid had a goal and Assist on the night. Maura Twiggs (Ocean City/Ocean City) stopped 14 shots in net in her first career start in net.
 
Mariah Cullen tallied three goals and three assists with Sophie Bass adding two goals for the Lions. Goalkeeper Joyce Hayley kicked out eight shots against Stockton in earning the victory.
 
The Ospreys will begin their home slate on Saturday as they will face the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in Galloway. Game time is scheduled for 4 pm.
