Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (1-1) scored eight times in the second half and picked up their first victory of the season with an 11-7 win over the Coast Guard Academy on a frigid Saturday afternoon.
Alexa Rubino (Voorhees/Eastern) led the way for Stockton with five goals on the day.
The Ospreys quickly fell behind 3-0 to start the game, with two of the Bears' goals coming in 19 seconds at the 23:39 mark. Freshman
Abbey Yannacone (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) and
Kim Raichelson (Brick/Brick Memorial) tallied goals to cut the margin to 3-2. Coast Guard scored their fourth goal of the half before Rubino answered with 59 seconds left, to cut the deficit to 4-3 at the break.
The Bears upped their advantage to 7-5 with Rubino tallying both of the goals for Stockton before Stockton exploded for the last six goals of the game, three in a span of 3:22. Raichelson and Rubino scored before Yannacone finished off the scoring with the last three goals of the game, with the final two markers were 31 seconds apart, to set the final score at 11-7.
In addition to Rubino's five goals, she also was credited with five draw controls. Yannacone scored the first four goals of her career, with two coming from free position opportunities. Raichelson chipped in with two goals, one assist and one caused turnover.
Kelsey Perst (Blairstown/North Warren) led the defense with two caused turnovers, with
Amanda Scarpa (Manalapan/Freehold Twp.) scooping two ground balls and a caused turnover. Stockton's defense caused 10 turnovers for the game and forced 19 miscues overall.
Maura Twiggs (Ocean City/Ocean City) stopped four shots in net in her first career victory.
Daria McKenna, Abigail Bradford and Anna McGoldrick scored two goals apiece, with McKenna and McGoldrick also adding one assist each. Hannah Delguercio stopped nine shots in net for the Bears.
The Ospreys will face Widener University at home on Thursday for their next game. Face-off is scheduled for 4 pm.
