Auburndale, FL – Stockton University (4-2) rallied to tie the game in the seventh inning but yielded three runs in the eighth and fell to Wisconsin-Platteville (3-1) 5-2.
Joe Pipher (Brick/Brick Memorial) continued his hot hitting by going 2-4 with two RBI. Pipher has hit safely in all six games this season.
Wisconsin-Platteville jumped in front 2-0 with two unearned runs in the third inning and Stockton battled back to tie with a pair of unearned scores in the top of the eighth.
Zach Gustites (Flemington/Hunterdon Central) and
Tyler Hobbs (Brick/Brick Memorial) each reached errors and advanced on a groundout. Pipher then delivered a two-run single to centerfield for a 2-2 tie.
The Pioneers came right back with three runs, one unearned, on four hits and an error in the bottom of the eighth to make it 5-2. The Ospreys were retired in order in the top of the ninth and suffered the three-run setback.
Stockton starter
Ray Hughes (Forked River/Lacey Twp.) pitched five innings, allowing just the two unearned runs on three hits. Hughes fanned three but was not involved in the decision.
Stockton will face Colby-Sawyer (NH) in Winter Haven, FL on Monday at 3 p.m.
