Clermont, FL – Stockton University (3-3) played for the third straight day in Florida and split its two games. The Ospreys suffered a 6-5 setback to unbeaten RPI (7-0) but then pounded Marywood (0-3) 13-0 in five innings.
Freshmen
Nicole Petrovich (East Hanover/Hanover Park) and
Alexandra Cosenzo (East Hanover/Hanover Park) each hit their first career home run against RPI. Petrovich came off the bench to go 2-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Carli Shaw (Bordentown/Bordentown) and
Holly Arentowicz (Roxbury/Roxbury) also contributed two hits apiece.
With Stockton trailing 1-0, Cosenzo led off the bottom of the fourth with her first college homer to tie game 1-1. RPI responded with four unearned runs on four hits and an error in the top of the fifth. Petrovich led off the bottom of the fifth with a memorable first college hit, a solo homer to make it 5-2.
The Ospreys rallied into a 5-5 tie with three runs in the sixth frame. Arentowicz singled and later scored on a pinch-hit RBI single by
Alexis Dunphy (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley). An RBI single by Petrovich made it 5-4 and then
Daniela Marinaro (Cedar Grove/Cedar Grove) followed with an RBI double to score Petrovich with the tying run.
RPI took advantage of another Stockton error to pull ahead 6-5 with an unearned run in the top of the seventh. In Stockton's last at-bat, Shaw singled with one out and advanced to second on a passed ball but was stranded there as two flyouts ended the game with the Ospreys falling 6-5.
Morgan DiVello (Atco/Hammonton) paced the Ospreys in the nightcap, going 3-3 with a triple and a run scored.
Chelsea Thomas (Barrington/Haddon Hts.) went 2-2 with four stolen bases, two runs and an RBI.
Danielle Lugo (Vineland/Vineland) went 2-4 with three runs and an RBI.
Shaw added two hits, two stolen bases and two runs while
Casey Schieda (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) was 2-3 with a double run and an RBI. Cosenzo chipped in with a triple and three runs.
Hannah Bibeault (Hopatcong/Hopatcong) twirled a one-hit shutout with six strikeouts for her second win of the season.
The Ospreys finished with 16 hits in the rout, with 10 players registering at least one safety including freshmen
Megan Katzmar (Cinnaminson/Holy Cross) and
Maggie Klatt (Middletown/Mater Dei) with their first career hits. Stockton scored two runs apiece in each of the first four innings and then capped the 13-0 triumph with five runs in the top of the fifth.
After a day off tomorrow, Stockton will play RPI again on Thursday at 10 a.m. followed by Roger Williams at 12:30 p.m.
