Stockton Splits Last Two Games in Florida

Rochester box / Anderson box

Clermont, FL – Stockton University (6-4) concluded its 10 games in Florida by splitting a pair. The Ospreys edged Rochester (9-2) 2-1 but then fell to Anderson (IN) (5-2) 7-5. Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) went 4-6 with three doubles and two runs on the day.

Hannah Bibeault (Hopatcong/Hopatcong) scattered 10 hits and allowed just one unearned run in six innings for the win over Rochester. Victoria Torp (West Milford/West Milford) tossed a scoreless seventh inning for a save. Holly Arentowicz (Roxbury/Roxbury) and Carli Shaw (Bordentown/Bordentown) stroked two hits apiece in the win.

Rochester scored once in the top of the first and the Ospreys answered with two runs in the bottom half for a 2-1 lead that would last the rest of the game. Shaw led off with a single, stole second and later scored on a wild pitch. Danielle Lugo (Vineland/Vineland) also singled and later scored on an RBI single by Arentowicz.

Rochester runners reached base in four of the remaining six innings but Bibeault and Torp held their opponents scoreless and the Ospreys prevailed 2-1.

Massa smacked three doubles and scored twice while Lugo also registered three hits and two runs against Anderson. Casey Schieda (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) went 2-2 with two RBI as well. Three Stockton errors led to four unearned runs the proved to be the Ospreys' undoing.

In the top of the first, Lugo singled and stole a base before scoring on an error to give Stockton the early 1-0 lead. Anderson went ahead 2-1 with single runs in the second and third innings but the Ospreys regained the lead 3-2 with two runs in the fourth as Schieda knocked a two-RBI single.

Anderson exploded for five runs on six hits and an error in the fifth frame to make it 7-3. Hits by Lugo and Massa set the stage for a pinch-hit, two-run double by Jessica McDonaugh (Brick/Brick Twp.) in the seventh inning but the Ospreys fell 7-5.

Stockton returns home to host Alvernia in a doubleheader on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
