Boxscore

Immaculata, PA – Stockton University (6-7) staged a furious rally from a 9-1 deficit but came up one run short and suffered a 10-9 setback to Immaculata (5-3). Tyler Hobbs (Brick/Brick Memorial) led the Ospreys by going 4-6 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

JJ Swentkowski (Egg Harbor Twp.) went 3-5 with three RBI and a run while Joe Pipher (Brick/Brick Memorial) was 3-3 with a triple and two RBI. The Ospreys outhit Immaculata 16-13 but left 12 runners on base in the contest.

Stockton got on the board in the top of the first as Hobbs doubled and then scored on an infield hit by Pipher two batters later. The Mighty Macs responded with one run in the second, five in the third and three in the fourth to put the Ospreys behind 9-1.

Stockton's comeback try began in the fifth inning as Pipher ripped an RBI triple and Nick LaPorta (Pompton Plains/Pequannock) later floated a sacrifice fly that scored Swentkowski to make it 9-3.

The Ospreys plated three more runs in the sixth inning, closing the gap to 9-6. Swentkowski capped the frame with a two-run double, scoring Hobbs and freshman Kobe Sutherland (Cherry Hill/CH East), who had reached via his first career hit. Immaculata added one run in the bottom of the sixth for a 10-6 count.

Freshman Ryan Moore (Waldwick/Waldwick), Stockton's fourth and most effective pitcher of the day, took the mound in the bottom of the seventh and tossed two scoreless innings to give his team a chance. Moore fanned two batters in the outing.

In the eighth frame, James Wines (Hazlet/Raritan) slugged an RBI double and then scored on an RBI single by Swentkowski to get Stockton within 10-8. Two Immaculata errors in the ninth inning set the stage for Hobbs' fourth hit of the day, a two-out RBI single that cut the margin to one at 10-9. The Ospreys had the tying run at second, but a groundout ended the game with Stockton one run shy.
