Game 1 /
Game 2
Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (10-8) dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader at Staten Island (9-3) by scores of 3-0 and 2-1. The setback in the opener halted a three-game winning streak by the Ospreys, whose offense was stymied throughout the evening and totaled just six hits.
Stockton was blanked for the first time all season in game one.
Holly Arentowicz (Roxbury/Roxbury) doubled to extend her hitting streak to nine and
Nicole Petrovich (East Hanover/Hanover Park) also doubled, but the Ospreys managed just two other hits.
Staten Island plated two runs in the second inning and another in the third for all the scoring in the 3-0 contest. Despite the outcome,
Victoria Torp (West Milford/West Milford) was solid on the mound, allowing two earned runs and one unearned on seven hits with two strikeouts.
Hannah Bibeault (Hopatcong/Hopatcong) gave her team a chance by pitching a three-hitter with two strikeouts in the nightcap, however she suffered the hard-luck defeat as Stockton was limited to only one run on two hits.
Maggie Klatt (Middletown/Mater Dei) singled with two out in the bottom of the fifth to break up a no-hitter. Klatt also rapped one hit in the first game and was the only Osprey with more than one safety in the doubleheader.
After 13 scoreless innings on the night, Stockton finally got on the board in the top of the seventh.
Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) led off with a single and advanced to second on an error. Another error by the Dolphins with two outs allowed pinch-runner
Ashley Lobell (Cedar Knolls/Whippany Park) to score, but the Ospreys could not generate the tying run and fell 2-1.
Stockton opens NJAC play with a home doubleheader against William Paterson on Saturday at 1 p.m.
