Game 2
Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (10-10, 0-2 NJAC) began NJAC play by hosting William Paterson (10-6, 2-0) but suffered a pair of setback to the Pioneers, 13-1 in five innings and 4-0.
Danielle Lugo (Vineland/Vineland),
Holly Arentowicz (Roxbury/Roxbury) and
Alexis Dunphy (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) each knocked two of Stockton's eight hits on the day.
Lugo went 2-2 with a double and an RBI while
Carli Shaw (Bordentown/Bordentown) doubled and scored in the first game. William Paterson jumped ahead 5-0 with four runs in the second inning and one in the third. The Ospreys scored their only run of the day on back-to-back doubles by Shaw and Lugo in the bottom of the third to make it 5-1.
The Pioneers broke the game open with six runs on six hits and an error in the fourth frame. A three-run double by Kaitlyn Poretti was the big blow. Christine Griffith hit a two-run homer in the fifth before the game ended on the run rule at 13-1 after five innings.
Stockton was held to just three hits in the nightcap, one single apiece by Arentowicz, Dunphy and
Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown). The game got off to a rocky start for the Ospreys as they yielded two unearned runs in the top of the first. Pitcher
Victoria Torp (West Milford/West Milford) gave her team a chance to rally by allowing just one hit in the next four innings.
Pioneers' pitcher Allison Podmajersky took a no-hitter into the fifth inning until Arentowicz led off with a single. Dunphy later delivered a pinch-hit single with two outs to put two runners aboard, but the Ospreys could not break through for any runs. William Paterson plated two markers on four hits in the sixth frame. Stockton could not mount a rally in its last two chances and suffered the 4-0 defeat.
Stockton will play its third ranked opponent of the season on Tuesday when the Ospreys visit #6 Rowan University for an NJAC doubleheader at 3 p.m.
