Stockton Downed Twice by #6 Rowan

Game 1 / Game 2

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (10-12, 0-4 NJAC) faced its third ranked opponent of the season and was downed twice by #6 Rowan University (22-2, 3-1), the highest ranked of the three. The Ospreys hung in against the Profs in the first game but fell 2-0 and then suffered an 11-2, five-inning defeat in the second game.

Carli Shaw (Bordentown/Bordentown) singled with two out in the third inning for Stockton's only hit of the opener. Victoria Torp (West Milford/West Milford) once again gave the Ospreys solid pitching, allowing two runs on seven hits in a complete game. Rowan scored twice on three hits in the bottom of the fourth for the only scoring in the 2-0 contest.

Stockton fell behind 6-0 after two innings of the nightcap. Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) led off the third inning with a single and Alexandra Cosenzo (East Hanover/Hanover Park) followed with her team-leading fifth homer of the season for Stockton's only runs of the day to make it 6-2.

Rowan later plated five more tallies in the fourth inning and the game was stopped in the fifth due to the run rule at 11-2. Cosenzo finished 2-3 with two RBI and a run scored on the homer. Casey Schieda (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) singled for the Ospreys as well.

Stockton returns home to host New Jersey City in an NJAC doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
