Stockton Sweeps Doubleheader from NJCU 9-0, 6-1

Game 1 / Game 2

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (12-12, 2-4 NJAC) earned their first two wins in conference play as the Ospreys swept New Jersey City (7-7, 0-4 NJAC) by scores of 9-0 in five innings and 6-1 on Saturday afternoon. Carli Shaw (Bordentown/Bordentown) led the offense with three hits, four steals and five runs scored and also cut down a runner at the plate from her centerfield spot.

In the opener, Stockton plated single runs in the first and third innings for a 2-0 advantage before exploding for five runs in the home fourth inning. Singles by Shaw and Alexandra Cosenzo (East Hanover/Hanover Park) set up Danielle Lugo (Vineland/Vineland), who singled in Shaw for a 3-0 lead.

After Holly Arentowicz (Roxbury/Roxbury) singled to load the bases, pinch hitter Alexis Dunphy (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) unloaded her first career homer, a grand slam, to give Stockton a commanding 7-0 margin. Cosenzo ended the game on the mercy rule the next frame, with her sixth round-tripper of the season for the 9-0 win.

Victoria Torp (West Milford/Wrest Milford) picked up her sixth win of the season tossing the complete game shutout. Torp allowed just four hits and struck out two without issuing a walk.

The Ospreys kept the momentum going in the nightcap, scoring three runs in the first inning. Shaw singled and stole second ahead of a Cosenzo double for the 1-0 lead. One batter later, Arentowicz slammed her second home run of the year for the 3-0 Stockton lead.

The Ospreys scored another tally in the fourth when Daniela Marinaro (Cedar Grove/Cedar Grove) and Ashley Lobell (Cedar Knolls/Whippany Park) singled and then pulled off a double steal. A Morgan DiVello (Atco/Hammonton) squeeze bunt made it 4-0 in favor of the home team.

A single marker by NJCU cut the lead to 4-1 before Stockton plated two insurance runs in the sixth frame. RBI hits by Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) and Cosenzo
sealed the 6-1 victory. Hannah Bibeault struck out a career-high nine hitters without allowing a free pass for her sixth win of the season in the circle.

Stockton will travel to Camden on Thursday to face the Scarlet Raptors for their next games. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3 pm.
