Galloway, NJ – After seven straight wins, Stockton University (7-2, 1-1 NJAC) tasted defeat for the first time since the season opener on March 1 as the Ospreys fell 15-9 to Rowan University (8-3, 1-0). Stockton was overwhelmed 10-1 in the first half and never recovered.
Mary Schmid (Lumberton/Holy Cross) scored five goals for the Ospreys followed by
Alexa Rubino (Voorhees/Eastern) and
Abbey Yannacone (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) with two goals apiece.
Rowan outshot Stockton 22-2 in the first half. The Profs scored four goals in the first nine minutes before Rubino got the Ospreys on the board 9:40 into the game. Stockton yielded six more markers in a 12-minute span and trailed 10-1 at the break.
Rowan scored 1:21 into the second half before Schmid and Yannacone found the net 21 seconds apart to make it 11-3. The Ospreys were outscored 4-2 in the next 16 minutes, with Schmid potting both counters. Trailing 15-5, Stockton scored the last four goals of the game, two by Schmid and one each for Rubino and Yannacone, to make the final score 15-9.

Maura Twiggs (Ocean City/Ocean City) finished with eight saves and topped the team with five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Rubino and
Melanie Iatarola (Sewell/Washington Twp.) each snagged three draw controls. Maddie Gray and Liz Kramer paced Rowan with three goals apiece.
Stockton returns home to host Kean University in an NJAC game on Saturday at 1 p.m.
